Cairo, September 27 (KUNA) — The Arab League warned today, Sunday, of the dangers posed by the ongoing Israeli occupation’s escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, particularly the attempts to impose new facts on Al-Aqsa Mosque and alter its historical and legal status. In a statement, the League condemned the occupation’s plans to introduce Jewish prayer books into Al-Aqsa Mosque, describing this as a highly dangerous development that could entrench new practices and rituals within the mosque and change the existing historical and legal status quo.
The League called on the international community to assume its responsibilities and compel the occupation to halt its continuous violations of the Palestinian people’s rights, freedom of worship, and the historical and legal status quo at Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.
It also condemned the tightening of the occupation forces’ military measures in the West Bank, including the closure of roads, gates, and checkpoints, which obstruct the movement of Palestinian citizens and their access to their workplaces and places of worship, as well as the closure of roads and entrances in several Palestinian governorates.
Furthermore, the League warned against exploiting the Jewish holiday period to escalate raids and violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque, amid recent days marked by incursions, the performance of religious rituals, the introduction of prayer tools and books into its courtyards, and the imposition of restrictions on the access of Palestinian worshippers.
