Omani Foreign Minister reaffirms his country's commitment to continuing efforts to safeguard navigation in the Strait of Hormuz
New York, September 26 (KUNA) -- Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al Busaidi reaffirmed today, Saturday, his country’s steadfast commitment to continuing its efforts to safeguard navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the principles of international law and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. This statement was made during Al Busaidi’s address at the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, where he called on all parties to cooperate with Oman in its efforts to ensure the rights of all beneficiaries of the transit routes in the Strait of Hormuz are respected and upheld.
He further emphasized Oman’s consistent approach of pursuing peaceful and consensus-based solutions to disputes, grounded in values and principles that contribute to achieving security and stability for all, and advancing economic development projects and shared prosperity for peoples.
Al Busaidi renewed his country’s solidarity with all neighboring states, including the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), in their legitimate measures to safeguard their security, protect their sovereignty, and ensure the integrity of their territories. He called on all concerned parties to resolve outstanding disputes through restraint, foresight, and engagement in dialogue, leading to political solutions based on consensus and sustainable understandings that serve the interests of all.
On the Yemeni issue, Al Busaidi reiterated Oman’s support for finding a political solution to the crisis that preserves Yemen’s unity and stability and meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people. He urged all parties to respond effectively and cooperate in reaching a just settlement that safeguards the rights, dignity, independence, territorial integrity, and secure relations with neighboring countries of the Yemeni people.
He expressed his country’s rejection of continuous Israeli aggression against Arab states, condemning the crimes and violations committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people and their suffering in their struggle to secure their legitimate rights and liberate their lands.
Al Busaidi also addressed Muscat’s plan to combat hate speech, genocide, atrocity crimes, and incitement thereto, announcing that Oman will host an event next November in observance of the International Day for Tolerance.
He further highlighted development plans and programs under “Oman Vision 2040” and efforts to empower women to play an active role in the development process and decision-making, noting the allocation of 11 permanently elected seats for women in the Omani Shura Council. (End) A.S.T. / M.M.J.
