Pope Francis calls for strengthening international cooperation to build a world of peace

Paris, September 26 (KUNA) -- Pope Leo XIV called on Saturday for strengthening international cooperation to build “a more just world governed by peace.” The Pope’s appeal came during a speech delivered at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). He praised UNESCO’s role in promoting peace, recalling in his address the preamble of the organization’s charter, which states that “since wars begin in the minds of men, in the minds of men must be built the defenses of peace.” He emphasized from this podium that peace cannot be achieved merely by signing treaties or reaching political settlements. In this regard, the Pope stressed the importance of anchoring the principles of peace on justice and moral responsibility.
