Chinese Vice President calls for abandoning confrontation and resolving differences through dialogue
New York, 26 Sep (KUNA) -- Chinese Vice President Han Jing called on the international community on Saturday to strengthen cooperation, reject confrontation, and resolve differences through dialogue and consultation amid the world’s complex changes and disruptions and prolonged geopolitical conflicts.
He made the remarks in a speech delivered during the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he emphasized that “the world needs peace, not war.”
Han stressed China’s rejection of unilateral military actions that violate the UN Charter and bypass the UN Security Council, noting that major powers bear a special responsibility in safeguarding international peace and security and must demonstrate leadership in complying with rules and upholding the rule of law.
He called for respecting the sovereignty and security of countries in the Middle East, including Gulf states, and for maintaining the stability of industrial, supply, and international trade chains, ensuring they are not subjected to obstacles.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Han urged strengthening governance in the West Bank and rebuilding the Gaza Strip based on the principle that “the governance of Palestine belongs to the Palestinians,” emphasizing the need to return the Palestinian issue to the right track for a two-state solution as soon as possible.
On development, the Chinese Vice President stressed the necessity of placing development at the heart of the international agenda and building a balanced and inclusive development partnership based on solidarity and equality, while rallying international consensus on the post-2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
Concerning artificial intelligence, Han called for adopting a human-centered approach and developing this technology to serve the public interest, contribute to narrowing the digital divide, and promote development that benefits everyone.
He also called for enhancing exchange and learning among civilizations and rebuilding trust through dialogue and communication, leveraging the UN platform to promote understanding among different cultures.
Regarding multilateralism, Han affirmed the need to protect the fairness and integrity of the multilateral system, reminding that all states are equal members of the international community and that global affairs should be managed through consultation among all.
The Chinese Vice President concluded his speech by calling on the international community to unite and work together to protect the United Nations and enhance its role, while respecting the rule of law and justice in international affairs. (End)
