Yemeni official: Strengthening state institutions and monopolizing weapons under state control are the foundation for Yemen's stability

Aden, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council member Dr. Abdullah Al-Aleimi Al-Bawazir affirmed on Saturday that strengthening the capacity of state institutions and consolidating the monopoly of weapons and sovereign decision-making within the state are fundamental to Yemen's security and stability.

The official Yemeni Saba News Agency reported that these remarks were made during a meeting in New York between Al-Aleimi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, attended by Yemeni Foreign Minister Afrah Al-Zoba, to discuss bilateral relations and the latest developments in Yemen and the region.

Al-Aleimi outlined the latest political, security, and military developments in Yemen, particularly the recent escalation by the Houthi militia in the western coast and several battlefronts, and the resulting humanitarian repercussions, damage to civilian infrastructure, and threats to international navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

He emphasized that the state's fulfillment of its duty to protect its citizens, territory, and sovereignty, and to counter armed threats, falls within its constitutional responsibilities and legitimate rights under international law.

For his part, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov reaffirmed his country's support for the Yemeni government, the unity of Yemen, its sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as the United Nations' efforts to reach a political settlement to the crisis in Yemen.

Lavrov stressed the importance of continuing consultation and coordination between the two countries on issues of mutual interest and enhancing relations between the two friendly nations.
