China and the United States agree on the necessity of Iran's commitment not to develop nuclear weapons

Beijing, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- China confirmed on Saturday that it reached an agreement with Washington on the necessity of Iran adhering to its pledge not to develop nuclear weapons, during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent visit to the United States. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement carried by the Xinhua News Agency that President Xi and his American counterpart, Donald Trump, reached an eight-point consensus, including a provision that no country or entity should impose fees on passage through international maritime corridors. The agency noted that the two leaders valued the positive role played by the China-US trade talks mechanism and reached an arrangement for mutual tariff reductions on products worth $30 billion, as well as an extension of the outcomes of the talks held in Kuala Lumpur last October. It added that the two sides agreed to open a dialogue on artificial intelligence to exchange views on the risks and benefits of this technology, with a new round of talks scheduled for next November. They also agreed to establish a communication channel on AI-related incidents. The agency said that mutual support was agreed upon for China’s hosting of the informal meeting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders in Shenzhen next November and the United States’ hosting of the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Miami next December.
