Beirut, September 26 (KUNA) -- Several areas in southern Lebanon witnessed an escalation in security tensions today, Saturday, due to attacks and military activities by Israeli occupation forces, including aerial flights, artillery shelling, and the dropping of internationally prohibited white phosphorus bombs. The Lebanese National News Agency reported that a force of Israeli occupation troops advanced to the outskirts of the town of Deir Mimas in the Marjayoun district, moving from the southern direction toward olive groves, where they remain entrenched. The agency added that the municipality of Deir Mimas issued a statement urging residents not to go to fields and olive orchards “for security reasons” until the 28th of the current month, with further notices to be issued according to developments in the situation. The agency clarified that the town of Shaqra was subjected to artillery shelling by occupation forces, while intense low-altitude flights by occupation helicopters were recorded over the skies of Beirut’s southern suburbs. It noted that the occupation’s air force launched a series of air raids on Al-Jabal Al-Rafi’ in the Qalamoun Heights, coinciding with a field explosion between the towns of Sarbineh and Mansouri, and the dropping of illuminating bombs between Haddatha and Al-Tayy. It pointed out that occupation artillery shelled both Wadi Al-Salouqi and Wadi Zibqin, while Israeli occupation forces dropped internationally prohibited white phosphorus bombs on the outskirts of the town of Zoutar Al-Sharqiya. These field developments come amid ongoing violations and attacks by Israeli occupation forces, despite diplomatic and international efforts to stabilize the situation and implement relevant UN resolutions.
