UN Crime Prevention Conference Kicks Off in Abu Dhabi with Participation of Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior

Abu Dhabi, 26 Sep (KUNA) -- The 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (Abu Dhabi 2026) opened on Saturday, with Kuwait represented by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, alongside ministers, officials, experts, and representatives from a large number of countries worldwide.

The conference is also attended by Kuwaiti Minister of Justice’s Undersecretary Awatif Al-Sand, along with a number of Kuwaiti officials and specialists in legal, judicial, and security fields, as part of the Kuwaiti delegation participating in the conference’s proceedings and various events.

The conference is being hosted at the ADNEC Abu Dhabi center and will continue until October 1, with an expected participation ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 delegates from more than 97 countries, in addition to a number of ministers, senior officials, experts, and specialists in the fields of crime prevention, criminal justice, and the rule of law.

The conference is held under the theme “Accelerating Action in Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and the Rule of Law: Protecting People and the Planet and Achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in the Digital Age.” It addresses a number of issues related to organized and transnational crime, cybercrime, human trafficking, drugs, money laundering, and crimes affecting the environment.

The conference also examines the responsible use of artificial intelligence and modern technology in the field of criminal justice, as well as ways to enhance international cooperation and develop justice systems to keep pace with technological transformations while safeguarding rights, privacy, and transparency.

The conference program includes a high-level segment, general sessions, committees, and specialized workshops, in addition to 15 high-level events, more than 200 in-person and virtual side meetings, and an accompanying exhibition featuring 38 display platforms.

The “Abu Dhabi Declaration” project is among the most prominent expected outcomes of the conference, aiming to set priorities and practical directions in the fields of crime prevention and criminal justice over the next five years. It covers axes related to prevention, the rule of law, evolving criminal threats, innovation, and international cooperation.

United Nations Congresses on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice are held every five years since 1955, with the aim of exchanging expertise, identifying emerging trends and challenges, and enhancing international cooperation in the fields of crime prevention, criminal justice, and the rule of law.
