Kuwait and Iraq agree to form a working group to address outstanding issues

New York, September 25 (KUNA) -- Based on the outcomes of the meeting between His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, may God protect him, and His Excellency Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Iraq, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, and in light of the keenness of the two fraternal countries to strengthen bilateral relations and address outstanding files in the spirit of brotherhood, good neighborliness, and shared interests, the two sides agreed on the following: 1. A joint Kuwaiti-Iraqi working group will be formed to review outstanding files and develop a roadmap for addressing them, presenting its joint recommendations to the leaderships of both countries within a period not exceeding thirty days. 2. The working group will hold its meetings alternately in Kuwait and Baghdad on a continuous basis until the completion of its tasks. Both sides reaffirm their full support for the working group’s work and their commitment to accomplishing its mission, which will contribute to closing outstanding files and opening a new phase of cooperation and partnership between the two fraternal countries, serving the interests of the Kuwaiti and Iraqi peoples.
