Erbil and Sulaymaniyah airports announce suspension of flights to and from Iran

Erbil, Sept 25 (KUNA) -- The administrations of Erbil and Sulaymaniyah International Airports announced the suspension of all flights to and from Iran, effective Friday.

In separate statements, the airport administrations said the decision to suspend Iranian flights has taken effect amid the repercussions of new U.S. sanctions imposed on Iran's aviation sector, which have led to the suspension of flights by Iranian airlines to several Iraqi airports.

The U.S. Treasury Department had announced sanctions on several Iranian airlines as part of measures targeting Iran's aviation sector. The sanctions included several Iranian carriers, including Mahan Air, Zagros, Qeshm, Caspian, and Taban, as well as foreign companies providing services related to the aviation sector. This has prompted some entities to restrict their dealings with Iranian airlines to avoid U.S. sanctions.
