Spain confirms its desire to maintain good relations with Morocco

Madrid, Sept 25 (KUNA) -- Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares affirmed his country's desire to maintain good relations with Morocco, in accordance with respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the principles of the 2022 Joint Declaration.

The Spanish Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday that this was conveyed during Albares' meeting with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. The two ministers discussed the return of irregular migrants present in Ceuta who do not meet the criteria for international protection.

The ministry added that Albares received assurances from his counterpart of "full cooperation" regarding the situation in Ceuta, following the irregular entry of large numbers of migrants into the city on July 30.
