Qatar national team defeats Bahrain 2-0 in a clean sheet victory at the 27th Gulf Cup

Jeddah, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- Qatar’s national team secured a 2-0 victory over Bahrain on Thursday in the opening match of Group 2 of the 27th edition of the Gulf Cup of Nations, held in Jeddah. Boualem Khoukhi opened the scoring for Qatar in the 61st minute, and Hassan Al-Haydos added a second goal from a penalty kick in the ninth minute of stoppage time. With the win, Qatar claimed its first three points to finish second in Group 2 on goal difference behind group leaders the United Arab Emirates, who also have three points. Bahrain came third, while Yemen sat fourth without any points. Group 2 comprises the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, and Yemen, while Group 1 includes Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, and Kuwait. (End) KH/N/SH
