UK provides over $116 million to aid residents of Gaza and the occupied West Bank

London, 24 Sep (KUNA) -- Britain announced on Thursday that it is providing new financial aid worth 88 million pounds (116.2 million dollars) to assist those affected in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.

The British government stated in a statement that this was announced during Foreign Secretary David Miliband's participation in an international session on the humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, held on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The statement clarified that the new funding will help provide essential healthcare services, particularly the rehabilitation of children with limb amputations and the expansion of routine medical examinations, as well as the provision of clean water, sanitation and hygiene services, and waste management.

It affirmed that the United Kingdom will continue to work with international partners to support the delivery of humanitarian aid, protect civilians, and lay the necessary foundations for the recovery of the Gaza Strip.

The statement quoted British Foreign Secretary David Miliband as emphasizing the need for Gaza's residents to receive humanitarian aid without obstruction.
