President of the Court of Appeal: Appeals resolved at high and unprecedented rates during the past judicial year

Kuwait - 24 - 9 (KUNA) -- The President of the Court of Appeal, Counselor Mohammed Al-Rifai, praised on Thursday the efforts made by the court’s counselors in reviewing and adjudicating appeals at high and unprecedented rates during the past judicial year, emphasizing the importance of sustaining this performance in the upcoming judicial year.

In a speech delivered during the court’s general assembly meeting, held to mark the end of the current judicial year and the start of the new one, Counselor Al-Rifai stated that adjudicating appeals at high rates and within appropriate timeframes has had a significant impact on achieving prompt justice, in line with the standing of the Kuwaiti judiciary.

He called for further efforts during the next judicial year, noting that the court is facing a reduction in the number of counselors due to the transfer of several to the Court of Cassation, as well as the departure of a large number of Egyptian counselors following the expiration of their contracts. This situation necessitated a reduction in the number of judicial panels to address the shortfall.

Al-Rifai explained that the distribution of work within the court has, as far as possible, taken into account the preferences of the counselors given the available circumstances, while prioritizing the interests of the work.

He added that the state provides material and moral support to judicial officials to enable them to fulfill their mission.

Counselor Al-Rifai further stated that the directives of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God protect and preserve him, call for accelerating the Kuwaitization of the judiciary. He clarified that the Court of Appeal has kept this objective at the forefront of its agenda from the outset, expressing his hope of getting closer to achieving the desired goal in this area.

He expressed gratitude and appreciation for the state’s support of the judiciary and the guardianship of justice, and commended the efforts of the counselors in the Technical Office and its staff, the court’s registry administration, and all employees, whose contributions have helped facilitate operations and overcome obstacles.
