GCC Secretary-General: Gulf-EU partnership is a key pillar for enhancing security and stability
New York, 24 Sep (KUNA) -- The Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, affirmed on Thursday that the Gulf-European partnership constitutes a vital pillar for enhancing regional and international security and stability, protecting shared interests, and addressing the rapidly evolving challenges facing the region.
The GCC Secretariat General stated in a statement that Al-Budaiwi made these remarks during his participation in a dialogue session at the Europe-Gulf Forum, hosted by the Antenna Group in partnership with the Atlantic Council. The session was attended by several ministers and senior officials from GCC member states and the European Union, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Al-Budaiwi emphasized the importance of continuing to develop cooperation and coordination between the two sides, particularly in areas related to safeguarding the security of GCC member states, the safety of their populations, and the protection of their critical infrastructure, as well as enhancing maritime navigation security and ensuring the continuity of energy flows, trade, and supply chains.
He stressed that the security of maritime routes is a shared interest for GCC member states and European countries, given its direct importance to energy security, international trade, and the global economy.
Al-Budaiwi noted that the upcoming Gulf-European Summit, scheduled to be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia next October, will strengthen relations between the two sides. He expressed his hope that the summit will yield outcomes and recommendations that serve shared interests and foster greater rapprochement between the peoples.
He further pointed out that GCC member states and Europe share common strategic interests, and that the coming phase requires increased joint efforts and the implementation of tangible projects that reflect a genuine partnership between the two sides and contribute to realizing the aspirations of the peoples of GCC member states and European countries.
