GCC and Portugal Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Enhance Relations and Expand Areas of Cooperation

New York, 24 Sep (KUNA) -- The Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), Jasem Mohamed AlBudaiwi, and Portuguese Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Paulo Rangel, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the GCC and Portugal aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding areas of cooperation to serve their shared interests.

The GCC General Secretariat said in a statement on Thursday that the MoU was signed on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The statement quoted AlBudaiwi as affirming that GCC member states continuously seek to strengthen their relations with countries and organizations around the world, noting that the signing of the GCC-Portugal MoU reflects this approach.

He explained that the MoU aims to outline a roadmap for exploring areas of cooperation that can contribute to achieving the common interests of the peoples of the GCC member states and Portugal.

The statement added that AlBudaiwi and Rangel held a meeting during which they discussed the prospects for relations between the GCC and Portugal, ways to consolidate them, and how to leverage the signed MoU to boost cooperation between the two sides.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments, particularly those concerning the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and their implications for security and stability in the region and the world.
