Interior Ministry foils smuggling of approximately 47 kilograms of shabu and 45 liters of raw shabu liquid through the Abdali border crossing
Kuwait - 24 - 9 (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Interior, represented by the General Directorate for Combating Narcotics, announced the foiling of the smuggling of approximately 47 kilograms of methamphetamine (Shabu) and 45 liters of raw Shabu liquid through the Abdali border crossing, under the direct supervision of First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry stated that the General Directorate for Combating Narcotics succeeded in arresting one of the members of a network involved in smuggling, manufacturing, and distributing narcotics, and in foiling the smuggling of a shipment of Shabu and the raw materials used in its manufacture. This action follows up on a previous case involving a suspect who was arrested at his residence in the Saad Al-Abdullah district for manufacturing Shabu in a "jakhour" (rural farm) in the Kabd district and trading in narcotics.
The statement clarified that the arrest came after investigative work and the setting of a tight ambush in coordination with the General Customs Directorate, as the suspect arrived from the Republic of Iraq through the Abdali border crossing. Authorities discovered approximately 47 kilograms of Shabu and 45 liters of raw Shabu liquid, used in the manufacture of psychotropic substances, hidden in a clandestine manner within the vehicle's frame.
It was added that investigations revealed the suspect had been traveling by land to the Mahshahr area in Iran to meet a drug dealer responsible for concealing the shipments inside the vehicle. He would then return via the Republic of Iraq to the State of Kuwait and hand over the vehicle to the previously arrested suspect for unloading at one of the jakhours, where the Shabu would be manufactured and distributed through trafficking networks.
The statement noted that the suspect admitted to carrying out more than 24 smuggling operations over two years, which included bringing shipments into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where individuals affiliated with the other suspect would take possession of the vehicle, unload its cargo, and return it to him for the journey back to the State of Kuwait.
The Ministry affirmed that the General Directorate for Combating Narcotics will continue to track the remaining members of the network and its extensions, and take the necessary measures against those involved, while drying up the sources of their activities to protect the security of society and the safety of its individuals.
