Yemeni Presidential Council Chairman: Our forces are capable of extending their control over the entire national territory
Aden, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad al-Alimi affirmed on Thursday the Yemeni people's confidence in their armed forces and their ability to regain the initiative and extend their control over the entire national territory.
The Yemeni Saba News Agency reported that al-Alimi made these remarks while receiving British Ambassador to Yemen, Abda Sharif, emphasizing that international support for the Yemeni government, its armed forces, and the popular resistance represents the most sustainable path to ending the Houthi threat.
Al-Alimi stated that the Yemeni armed forces and all military formations have demonstrated high efficiency in dealing with the Houthi militia's escalation across multiple fronts, transitioning from containing attacks to regaining the initiative and strengthening deterrence.
He added that developments on the western coast posed a difficult test, but the armed forces maintained their cohesion and turned those developments into an opportunity to regain the initiative and unify ranks.
He noted that the sustainable security of the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait is linked to the existence of a strong Yemeni state that controls its territory, coasts, and territorial waters, pointing out that supporting the armed forces in restoring their national institutions is not merely an investment in Yemen's security, but also in the security of trade, energy, and global interests.
He called for building upon the recent positions of the UN Security Council and the Group of Seven (G7), moving from condemning Iranian support for the Houthi militia to more effective measures to enforce the arms embargo, pursue smuggling and financing networks, and halt the transfer of military technology.
He praised the British role in supporting the Yemeni government, the positions adopted by the United Kingdom in the UN Security Council, its communications with international partners, holding the Houthi militia responsible for the escalation, and affirming the right of Yemen and Saudi Arabia to deter threats and protect their security and sovereignty in accordance with international law.
He also commended the pivotal role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its continuous support for the Yemeni government and people, including its economic, humanitarian, and developmental assistance, as well as its support for the reform program and the improvement of basic services provided to citizens in various governorates.
The agency noted that the British Ambassador, for her part, outlined British support directed at relief efforts and humanitarian response in Yemen, affirming that her country will continue to support the Yemeni people and alleviate their humanitarian suffering.
