Libya Elected to Head the Executive Council of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development

Tunis, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Wealth of Libya’s Government of National Unity announced on Thursday that Libya has been elected to chair the Executive Council of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) for the 2026–2028 term.

Citing the Libyan News Agency, the ministry stated in a statement that Libya’s election reflects confidence in its role in supporting joint Arab efforts in the agricultural sector. It emphasized that the country continues to strengthen its presence in joint Arab institutions and to support cooperation and coordination among Arab states on issues related to agriculture, food security, and sustainable development.

The ministry noted that Libya’s election to chair the organization came after a vote by member states of the Executive Council in its favor, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Jordan, Palestine, Sudan, and Djibouti.

The agency reported that Libyan Minister of Agriculture and Animal Wealth Abdul Latif Al-Tahir, in a speech delivered during a meeting held via video conference, stressed the importance of unifying Arab efforts and visions to advance the agricultural sector, calling for the development of practical mechanisms to enhance sustainable food security.

Al-Tahir, in his address following his assumption of the chairmanship of the organization’s Executive Council, underscored the need for the optimal utilization of natural resources, the support of agricultural development pathways in Arab countries, and the effective management of water resources to achieve food security in the Arab region.
