European Union imposes sanctions on former Russian official at RT channel

Brussels, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- The European Union imposed sanctions on Thursday on Russian journalist Ksenia Fedorova, the former president and news director of the French branch of Russia Today (RT), for her involvement in what it described as information manipulation, foreign interference, and the dissemination of pro-Russian narratives. In a statement, the EU said that during her tenure, Fedorova participated in implementing and broadcasting RT France’s editorial line, including pro-Russian narratives in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine. It added that after the suspension of RT’s broadcasting activities in the EU, Fedorova continued to publish content aligned with the positions of Russian authorities regarding the war in Ukraine, European support for Kyiv, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), and Russia-EU relations, through French media outlets including the channels CNews and Europe 1, and the newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche. French authorities had formally expelled the 45-year-old Fedorova last August after she lost an appeal against a court order for her departure, following the publication of Kremlin-friendly propaganda. The EU clarified that the new sanctions are part of restrictive measures targeting destabilizing activities carried out by Russia, bringing the total number of individuals and entities subject to sanctions to 81 individuals and 20 entities. The sanctions include the freezing of assets of listed persons and entities, and prohibit EU citizens and companies from making funds, financial assets, or economic resources available to them.
