Cairo, Sept 24 (KUNA) — Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi reaffirmed his country’s steadfast commitment to the security and stability of Iraq and its support for all measures undertaken by the Iraqi state to safeguard its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He commended the Iraqi government’s efforts to combat corruption and curb the proliferation of weapons.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Egyptian presidential spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy said these remarks were made during a meeting between President el-Sisi and Iraqi Al-Hikma Movement leader Ammar al-Hakim, attended by Egyptian General Intelligence Service Director Hassan Rashad.
The spokesperson added that el-Sisi emphasized the historic fraternal ties between Egypt and Iraq and their peoples, reiterating Cairo’s commitment to maintaining dialogue with Iraqi state institutions and all political and national forces, in light of the close brotherly relations between the two countries.
Al-Hakim, for his part, expressed pride in the historical relations and fraternal bonds between Egypt and Iraq, stressing Egypt’s pivotal role under President el-Sisi’s leadership in enhancing security and stability in the region, including support for Iraq and its efforts to restore its natural leading position at both the Arab and regional levels.
According to the statement, the meeting also addressed the current regional landscape and its repercussions on the countries and peoples of the region, particularly Egypt and Iraq. In this context, el-Sisi outlined Egypt’s national vision, which calls for prioritizing peaceful solutions to crises and conflicts, supporting legitimate institutions, and upholding the concept of an inclusive nation-state.
El-Sisi discussed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent a new wave of escalation, emphasizing the importance of Iraq continuing its constructive role in strengthening collective security among Arab states and safeguarding the interests of the region’s peoples.
The meeting also touched upon recent developments regarding the Palestinian issue. President el-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts to support the Palestinian people through the implementation of the second phase of the Sharm el-Sheikh Agreement and the American peace plan, as well as facilitating the entry of aid and intensifying humanitarian relief efforts in the Gaza Strip.
He underscored Egypt’s firm stance on the inevitability of establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, as the comprehensive, just, and only solution to the Palestinian issue. (End) A.S.M. / A.B.G.
