Ramallah, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- The Israeli occupation army tightened its military measures in the West Bank on Thursday, declaring a state of alert and deploying additional troops. This came as the home of a Palestinian prisoner was demolished near the city of Nablus, coinciding with settler attacks.

Local Palestinian sources said occupation forces closed many checkpoints and military gates at the entrances to Palestinian cities, particularly those surrounding Ramallah, following the killing of Mahmoud Suleiman (29) from the village of Beit Urra on Wednesday evening. They added that settlers set fire to two vehicles and wrote racist slogans on walls in the village of Atara, north of Ramallah, before withdrawing from the area.

The occupation claimed that Suleiman carried out a vehicle-ramming attack that left a soldier seriously injured. However, eyewitnesses maintained that the young man lost control of his vehicle and was shot at heavily by soldiers, after which his body was detained.

In a related development, Israeli occupation forces demolished the home of prisoner Dawas Hason in the town of Beit Amrin, northwest of Nablus. Hason has been held in Israeli prisons since March last year.

Palestinians fear an Israeli escalation in the coming weeks, especially as the olive harvest season approaches—a period marked by heightened settler and military attacks—and as Israel prepares for its upcoming elections. (End) N.Q./A.B.G.
