Aden, September 24 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni Armed Forces announced on Thursday dawn that they had broken a Houthi militia attack in the Al-Ahkom area in the Haifan district of Taiz Governorate, repelling elements that had infiltrated the Hejat Al-Abd mountain road linking Taiz and Aden in southwestern Yemen.
Brigadier General Majid Al-Nazili, the official spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, said in a press statement that the armed forces inflicted dozens of killed and wounded among the militia’s elements and destroyed some of their weapons while repelling the attack on the Al-Ahkom isolated village. He added that the Houthi militia suffered human losses that forced it to withdraw immediately and prevented it from making any advances, noting that government forces carried out a widespread deployment backed by Popular Resistance forces across the entire Haifan front.
In a related development, the state-run Yemeni News Agency (Saba) quoted a military source as confirming that the armed forces had secured the Al-Muqatira area in the neighboring Lahj Governorate, adjacent to the Al-Ahkom area in Taiz, and reopened the Hejat Al-Abd road to the movement of citizens and travelers after the threat posed by the Houthi militia’s infiltration attempt was eliminated.
Meanwhile, the media center of the Taiz Military Axis reported that seven Houthi militia members were killed and others wounded during the past 24 hours in clashes with the Yemeni Armed Forces along the western and eastern fronts of the governorate, while the Yemeni warplane conducted four airstrikes on Houthi militia gatherings, positions, and weapons depots.
