Egypt and Qatar Emphasize Rejection of Any Plans to Displace Palestinians
Cairo, 23 Sep (KUNA) — Egypt and Qatar reaffirmed on Wednesday their rejection of any plans to displace Palestinians and the necessity of establishing a Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated in a statement that this was conveyed during a meeting between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman, held on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The statement clarified that the two ministers emphasized the importance of continuing intensive coordination with the United States and regional partners to ensure the implementation of the U.S. President’s peace plan for the Gaza Strip, guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip, and work toward launching reconstruction efforts.
Regarding regional developments and efforts aimed at containing tensions and de-escalating the situation in the region, Minister Abdelatty underscored the importance of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions. He expressed Egypt’s categorical condemnation of any aggression against the sister Gulf states and any attempts to undermine their security and stability, viewing such threats as an extension of Egypt’s national security.
He also stressed the necessity of safeguarding the security, safety, and freedom of navigation, while affirming Egypt’s complete rejection of the use of straits and maritime passages as tools for pressure or coercion, in violation of the rules and provisions of international law.
On the situation in Sudan, Minister Abdelatty affirmed the need to preserve Sudan’s security, stability, and unity, as well as its national institutions, and to support a resolution of the crisis that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
With regard to the situation in Yemen and the Horn of Africa, the two ministers emphasized the importance of advancing dialogue mechanisms and negotiation tracks to de-escalate tensions and enhance regional and international security and stability.
Concerning relations between Egypt and Qatar, both sides commended the rapid development and momentum in their relationship, as well as the continued coordination and consultation on various regional issues and files. They reaffirmed their shared aspiration to continue elevating the level of bilateral relations and expanding areas of cooperation, including the regular convening of bilateral cooperation frameworks, particularly the Egypt-Qatar Supreme Committee.
They affirmed their commitment to implementing the outcomes, programs, and projects agreed upon to serve the interests of both parties, alongside continuing to develop the legal frameworks and agreements governing various aspects of bilateral cooperation, especially those related to commercial, economic, and investment fields.
