US and Russian Foreign Ministers Discuss the Ukraine War and the Trajectory of Bilateral Relations in New York

Washington, Sept. 23 (KUNA) -- U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov discussed the Russian-Ukrainian war and the trajectory of bilateral relations between the United States and Russia on Wednesday.

The U.S. State Department said in a statement that the meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly sessions in New York.

Rubio told reporters on Wednesday that Russia and Ukraine have begun showing interest in a limited ceasefire covering the energy and grain sectors, following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statement yesterday that Kyiv is prepared for any formula to halt attacks on the energy sector, which could serve as a first step toward ending the war.
