Beirut, September 23 (KUNA) -- Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stressed on Wednesday that “Lebanon’s stability is tied to Syria’s stability,” calling for efforts to ensure security, military, and economic stability. The Lebanese presidency said in a statement that this remark came during President Aoun’s reception of an official Syrian delegation comprising Economy Minister Mohammad Al-Shaar, Health Minister Musab Al-Ali, Tourism Minister Mazen Al-Salahani, Agriculture Minister Bassel Suwaidan, Transport Minister Yara Badr, Investment Authority Chairman Ahmad Ramadan, Civil Aviation Authority Chairman Omar Al-Husri, and Chairwoman of the Lebanese-Syrian Business Council Layla Al-Saman.

Aoun praised positions that “call for consolidating relations between the two countries on the basis of complementarity, balance, mutual respect, and non-interference in internal affairs,” considering the visit an indicator of the soundness of relations between the two nations. In this regard, he expressed his interest in the idea of economic integration in the region, similar to the European Union, particularly noting that Lebanon and Syria enjoy a distinctive location on the Mediterranean Sea.

For his part, Syrian Economy Minister Mohammad Al-Shaar said, “This meeting is of great importance and has long been anticipated by current Syrian officials.” He pointed out that Syrian business and financial figures have formed the Syrian-Lebanese Business Council under the chairmanship of Layla Al-Saman, while Lebanon has taken a similar step, with Khalil Arab chairing the Lebanese council. He expressed hope for the establishment of economic entities that would contribute to the revival of both countries.

The official Syrian delegation is visiting Lebanon to participate in the Lebanese-Syrian Investment Forum 2026, to discuss frameworks for economic and investment cooperation between the two countries. (End) A.Y.B. / N.A.A.
