Beirut, September 23 (KUNA) -- The Lebanese National News Agency reported on Wednesday that the Israeli occupation army carried out an explosion in the border town of Khiam, southern Lebanon, causing damage to neighboring towns. It added that the fallout from the blast was evident in nearby areas, particularly in Jdeidet Mroujieh and Al-Qleiat, with serious damage to several homes, including shattered window and door glass and cracks in walls “due to the force of the shockwave generated by the explosion.” The agency explained that these damages led to the temporary suspension of classes at Marjayoun National School until repair work is completed, in order to safeguard the safety of students and teaching staff. It is worth noting that Israeli occupation forces, stationed in dozens of villages and towns in the south, carry out systematic explosions of properties at a near-daily pace. Earlier, Lebanese Environment Minister Tamara Jomaa had pointed out in a previous statement that “the massive underground explosions carried out by the Israeli occupation army in the south could, under certain geological conditions, particularly when they occur near existing faults, trigger or reactivate these faults, thereby increasing the risk of seismic activity.” (End) A.Y.B. / M.Kh.
