Lebanese Prime Minister Emphasizes the Importance of Arab Unity of Stance Amid Current Circumstances

Beirut, September 23 (KUNA) -- Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stressed the importance of maintaining a unified Arab position amid current regional circumstances, and of coordinating Arab stances and efforts to contribute to de-escalation and to safeguard the security and stability of the region. This was stated in a statement issued today, Wednesday, by the Prime Minister’s Media Office, which noted that Salam held a meeting in New York with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Youssef Raji. According to the statement, Salam appreciated the Arab League’s positions supporting Lebanon, its sovereignty, and the integrity of its territory, “particularly its call for Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territories, an end to its aggression, and its support for the Lebanese state’s efforts to extend its authority over all its lands and to monopolize weapons in its hands, as well as the continuation of an international presence in the south after the conclusion of the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).” The statement added that the Lebanese prime minister discussed with Fahmy the importance of mobilizing Arab support for Lebanon in the return, recovery, and reconstruction process, and in bolstering the resilience of Lebanese communities in affected areas.
