Aden, September 22 (KUNA) -- The Yemeni Armed Forces announced on Tuesday that their air force and drones targeted Houthi militia positions, fortifications, and gatherings in several governorates, achieving ground advances in Taiz province in southwestern Yemen.
Majid al-Nazili, a colonel and official spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, said in statements reported by the forces’ media center that the Yemeni Air Force struck Houthi militia personnel and equipment in Al Bayda’ province and in the coastal area of Al Mokha in Taiz province.
Al-Nazili added that drones belonging to the Sixth Military Zone targeted artillery and a missile storage facility for Houthi militias on the northern front of Ma’rib province, as well as Houthi gatherings in Al Jawf province. He noted that drones from the Seventh Military Zone targeted barracks and equipment belonging to Houthi militias on the northwestern front in Ma’rib.
Yemeni Armed Forces media platforms released footage documenting drone strikes on Houthi militia barracks, fortifications, gatherings, and storage sites in several Yemeni governorates.
For its part, the Al-Ablaq military brigades, part of the Yemeni government forces, announced the downing of a Houthi suicide drone before it reached its target on the front in Al Bayda’ province.
In a related development, Brigadier General Abdulaziz al-Majidi, chief of staff of the Taiz Military Axis, confirmed that the Yemeni Armed Forces, backed by popular resistance, had consolidated control over the strategic Qirfan Mountain in the Harj Jarad area of Al Shamaytain district in the southwestern countryside of Taiz province.
Al-Majidi explained that the armed forces and resistance fighters secured the site after fierce clashes with Houthi militia elements stationed there, ending with the clearance of the site and the restoration of control. He noted that the confrontations resulted in the death of more than five Houthi militia members and the wounding of about 20 others, while the militias continued to target armed forces positions with a high rate of mortar fire amid ongoing tensions and clashes in the area.
In another development, Colonel Majid al-Nazili, the official spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, held the Houthi militias responsible for the safety, protection, and provision of secure sites away from combat zones for prisoners and detainees in their custody, in accordance with relevant laws, to ensure their safety and prevent their execution or use as human shields.
Al-Nazili denied in a statement the validity of Houthi militia claims regarding the killing of several armed forces prisoners at one of their detention sites in Al Hazm district, Al Jawf province, confirming that no targeting operations had been carried out inside the city. He pointed out that military sites in Al Hazm city, Al Jawf province, are under Houthi militia control and that, under international law, they are obligated to inform the International Committee of the Red Cross of any detention sites so they can be designated as protected locations from targeting in accordance with international humanitarian law and its customary rules.
