Iranian aviation authority announces cancellation of flights to Baghdad and Muscat airports

Tehran – 22 – 9 (KUNA) – The Iranian Civil Aviation Authority announced on Tuesday evening the cancellation of Iranian flights bound for Baghdad and Muscat airports. Majid Akhvan, the authority’s spokesperson, said in a statement carried by the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) that “starting from midnight (Tuesday–Wednesday), Baghdad Airport will no longer accept Iranian flights.” Akhvan added that “Iranian authorities are currently coordinating and consulting to divert flights bound for Baghdad Airport to Najaf City Airport.” He noted that Muscat Airport in the Sultanate of Oman will also not accept Iranian travelers, while confirming that “other international flights are operating on schedule without any issues.” Earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC that Iranian airlines will cease operations starting September 23 under the pressure of U.S. sanctions.
