Director General of the IAEA congratulates the State of Kuwait on its membership and chairmanship of the Board of Governors

New York, 22 Sep (KUNA) -- Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), congratulated the State of Kuwait on Tuesday for securing a seat on the IAEA Board of Governors and assuming its presidency.

The remarks were made during a meeting between Grossi and Sadik Maaroufi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Organizations Affairs, on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Grossi expressed his anticipation of continuing cooperation with Kuwait in the coming period. For his part, Ambassador Maaroufi affirmed Kuwait’s commitment to supporting the IAEA’s role and enhancing cooperation with it in the fields of peaceful uses of nuclear energy, as well as nuclear safety and security.

During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination on issues of mutual interest, and the importance of supporting the IAEA’s efforts in fulfilling its mandate, thereby contributing to the promotion of international peace and security.
