Kuwait Football Association President: The national team came to the Gulf Cup to achieve positive results
Jeddah, 22 Sep (KUNA) -- Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, President of the Kuwait Football Association, confirmed on Tuesday that the Kuwaiti national team arrived at the Gulf Cup not merely to participate, but to compete and achieve a positive result, adding that the eight teams participating in the tournament came to compete and deliver their best performance.
He made the remarks in a statement to reporters on the sidelines of the Kuwaiti national team’s training session at the King Abdullah Sports City auxiliary stadium in Jeddah, in preparation for their match against the Saudi national team tomorrow, Wednesday, in the 27th Gulf Cup (Khaleeji Al-Diyar Al-Arabiya 27).
Al-Sabah stated that tomorrow’s match against Saudi Arabia is important, expressing his hope to witness a strong encounter between two major national teams. He added that the Kuwait-Saudi Arabia match is the most popular and thrilling among fans, noting Saudi Arabia’s strong preparation following their participation in the FIFA World Cup.
He pointed out that the circumstances faced by Kuwaiti sports, along with previous suspension periods, have affected the future of the sport and the participation of younger players, emphasizing that efforts are underway to build a strong team and that the Kuwaiti national team is promising.
Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah extended his congratulations to the Saudi leadership on Saudi National Day, which falls tomorrow, Wednesday, wishing the Kingdom continued progress and prosperity.
The training session was attended by Sheikh Ahmad Al-Yousef Al-Sabah, President of the Kuwait Football Association Board of Directors; Aymen Al-Husaini, Vice President for Technical Affairs and Head of the Delegation; Dr. Saleh Al-Majroob, Secretary General of the Association; former international player Saad Al-Houti; and media representatives.
The Saudi city of Jeddah is hosting the 27th edition of the Gulf Arab Cup from September 23 to October 6.
The Kuwaiti national team will face the host nation, Saudi Arabia, in their opening match tomorrow, a game that holds special significance for Gulf football fans.
Kuwait is in Group A alongside Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Oman, while Group B comprises the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Yemen.
