Qatar's Emir Discusses Key Regional and International Developments with UN Secretary-General

Doha, 22 Sep (KUNA) – The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, discussed key regional and international developments on Tuesday with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

The Qatari Diwan Al-Amiri stated in a statement that the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, focused on the latest regional and international developments, particularly ways to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East and the international community’s efforts to support initiatives calling for peaceful and diplomatic solutions in the region and worldwide.

The two sides reviewed ways to enhance cooperation between Qatar and the United Nations, noting that the Secretary-General commended Qatar’s efforts in supporting the organization’s various programs and initiatives, as well as its role in promoting development and humanitarian cooperation globally.

The meeting also addressed key items on the agenda of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

In a separate statement, the Diwan said that the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, discussed the latest regional and international developments with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in New York, particularly the evolving situation in the region and diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, thereby reinforcing security and stability in the area.

The meeting also reviewed the strategic relations between the two countries and ways to support and strengthen them in various fields, as well as key issues on the General Assembly’s agenda. The two sides also exchanged views on several current matters of mutual interest.
