Tunisia and the African Development Bank sign two financing agreements worth $241 million

Tunis, Sept 22 (KUNA) -- Tunisia signed two agreements today with the African Development Bank to finance two projects in the water and environment sectors, with a total value of $241 million. The Tunisian Ministry of Economy and Planning said in a statement that the first funding is earmarked for improving the technical and energy efficiency of the drinking water network in the Greater Tunis area, which includes the capital and three neighboring governorates, at a cost of 111.5 million euros (approximately $131 million). It explained that the project aims to meet the growing water demand in the region amid frequent disruptions in the distribution network of the state-owned company due to breakdowns or aging infrastructure and equipment. The ministry added that the second funding, valued at $110 million, will contribute to implementing a project to support environmental rehabilitation and modernize production units at the Tunisian Chemical Group.
