India and the European Union Discuss Ways to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation in Several Areas
New Delhi - 22 - 9 (KUNA) -- The European Union and India discussed on Tuesday ways to deepen bilateral cooperation in several areas of mutual interest.
The Indian Ministry of Science and Technology stated in a statement that a delegation from the European Parliament met with Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh to discuss the effective implementation of the free trade agreement between the two sides and to enhance cooperation in science, technology, and emerging technologies.
The Indian minister affirmed in the statement that the partnership between India and the European Union will open new horizons for cooperation in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors, and advanced research. He also called for strengthening cooperation between the two sides on climate issues, clean and green technologies, and green hydrogen.
He emphasized that science, technology, and innovation will remain fundamental pillars for expanding the strategic partnership between India and the European Union. The minister noted that the strategic partnership provides significant opportunities to enhance cooperation in priority areas of mutual concern, with science and research forming an integral part of this partnership.
For her part, Angelika Winzig, an Austrian member of the European Parliament delegation and member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, expressed her gratitude to the Indian minister for the meeting, affirming that India is a key strategic partner for the European Union.
Winzig explained that the delegation’s visit aims to gain a deeper understanding of India’s industrial and technological policies and to identify areas for enhancing cooperation.
The meeting addressed India’s research priorities, biotechnology and emerging technologies, follow-up on the implementation of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council’s work, and the latest developments regarding India’s accession to the “Horizon Europe” program, which enhances opportunities for joint cooperation in science, technology, innovation, and clean technologies.
