Arab League Secretary-General stresses the need to strengthen joint Arab action to address regional developments
Cairo, 22 Sep (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy affirmed on Tuesday the necessity of enhancing the effectiveness of joint Arab action and coordination among Arab states to address the rapid developments in the region and to support priority Arab issues.
The Arab League stated in a statement that Fahmy made these remarks during his participation in the annual consultative meeting of the Arab League Council at the ministerial level, held in New York on the sidelines of the High-Level Segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Fahmy emphasized the importance of continued consultation and coordination among Arab states, particularly in light of the rapid developments in the region. He underscored the need to strengthen the effectiveness of joint Arab action to safeguard Arab national security, the sovereignty and interests of Arab states, and to support priority issues, foremost among them the Palestinian cause.
The statement added that the meeting was chaired by Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ben Youssef and addressed the coordination of Arab positions on the issues on the agenda of the current session of the UN General Assembly, building upon the outcomes of the Arab ministerial meeting held in Cairo at the beginning of the current month.
It explained that the ministers exchanged views on ways to enhance Arab coordination and consultation during various meetings and international events in New York, thereby strengthening the presence of Arab positions and issues in international forums.
Participants reviewed developments in the Palestinian cause and the violations by the Israeli occupation in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Jerusalem, as well as ways to intensify joint Arab action on the international stage to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
They also discussed the situation in Syria and Lebanon, the violations by the Israeli occupation, and Iranian aggression against Arab Gulf states, Jordan, and Iraq, in addition to the Houthi militia attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the threats to freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea.
