Swiss Foreign Minister Expresses Concern to Iranian Counterpart Over Rising Tensions in the Region

Geneva, 22 Sep (KUNA) -- Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis expressed on Tuesday his country's deep concern over the escalating tensions in the Middle East and their implications for peace and security in the region, emphasizing that its stability is also linked to Switzerland's stability.

He made these remarks during a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, in New York on the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Cassis stated in a post on his official account on the social media platform X that he had discussed the geopolitical balance in the Middle East with his Iranian counterpart amid rising regional tensions.

The Swiss minister clarified that his country's priority is to prevent further escalation, keep diplomatic communication channels open, and work towards reaching a negotiated solution.

He affirmed Switzerland's readiness to offer its "good offices" and contribute to diplomatic efforts wherever beneficial.
