Kuwait reaffirms its commitment to enhancing international cooperation in protecting critical civilian digital infrastructure

New York, 22 Sep (KUNA) -- Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Organizations Affairs, Ambassador Sadeq Maarefi, affirmed on Tuesday the State of Kuwait’s commitment to continuing its support for the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) and enhancing international cooperation in protecting critical civilian digital infrastructure.

He made the statement while participating in a high-level roundtable organized by the DCO on Monday evening on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The event was attended by several ministers, senior officials, representatives of international organizations, and the private sector.

Maarefi highlighted Kuwait’s declaration on Responsible Artificial Intelligence for Global Digital Prosperity, which was adopted during the organization’s fifth General Assembly held in Kuwait. He stressed the importance of moving from adopting declarations and principles to their practical implementation.

The meeting addressed ways to protect digital infrastructure and ensure the continuity of essential services in the face of disruptions and cyber risks, as well as enhancing international cooperation, exchanging expertise, and building national capacities.

The session also witnessed the announcement of Barbados joining the DCO, making it the first member state from the Western Hemisphere.
