Geneva, September 22 (KUNA) -- Kuwait’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva on Tuesday reiterated its strong condemnation of the repeated attacks carried out by Houthi militias on civilian targets and civilians in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the attempt to target Mecca with a drone. This was stated in a speech delivered by Counselor Bashar Al-Muwaisiri before the UN Human Rights Council during its 63rd session in Geneva. He emphasized that these attacks constitute a blatant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a breach of international law and international humanitarian law. Al-Muwaisiri described the act as “cowardly and despicable,” asserting that it violates the sanctity of the Qibla of Muslims, shows disregard for its religious significance, and offends the feelings of Muslims. He warned that the region is witnessing rapid political and military escalation, as well as growing tensions that directly affect regional security and the safety of navigation. Al-Muwaisiri reaffirmed Kuwait’s emphasis on the importance of political dialogue and diplomatic solutions as fundamental pillars for resolving international disputes and achieving sustainable stability among states, while stressing the necessity of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states and adhering to the principles of international law and the UN Charter. He called for avoiding any steps that could heighten tensions or expose the region’s security and stability to further risks. In the same context, Al-Muwaisiri also stressed, during the Council’s general debate, the importance of addressing human rights issues within the framework of constructive dialogue and cooperation, free from politicization and selectivity, in order to build trust and address challenges in a practical and effective manner.
