Kuwait City, 22 September (KUNA) – Kuthair Al-Jou’an, President of the Institute of Women for Development and Peace, stressed today, Tuesday, the importance of entrenching a culture of peace and dialogue as two fundamental pillars for achieving security and stability and supporting development pathways, especially in light of the conflicts and escalating tensions witnessed worldwide.
In a press statement marking the International Day of Peace, Al-Jou’an said that this occasion serves as a renewed call to enhance the values of dialogue, understanding, tolerance, and rejection of violence, and to work toward building safer and more stable societies. She added that the world is currently facing growing challenges due to ongoing conflicts and geopolitical tensions, which necessitate intensifying international efforts, elevating the voice of diplomacy and dialogue, and strengthening a culture of peaceful coexistence to achieve sustainable solutions that contribute to de-escalating conflicts.
She explained that peace is a key factor in achieving stability, attracting investments, and directing resources toward education, health, and development sectors, rather than depleting them in conflicts and armaments. She highlighted the importance of enhancing dialogue and diplomacy to help protect regional security and ensure the stability of peoples.
Al-Jou’an noted that Kuwait, in its foreign policy, emphasizes the importance of peaceful solutions, preventive diplomacy, and dialogue in resolving differences, in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
She recalled that the International Day of Peace, observed annually on September 21, is this year under the theme “Stand Up for Peace,” underscoring the shared responsibility to entrench the values of peace and reject violence.
Al-Jou’an affirmed the Institute of Women for Development and Peace’s commitment to continuing its role in promoting a culture of peace and raising awareness of its importance through activities, seminars, lectures, and community initiatives. She stressed the necessity of pooling international and societal efforts to enhance tolerance and peaceful coexistence, thereby contributing to building a future characterized by security and stability.
