Swiss Foreign Minister: Regional Stability Vital to Global Stability and to Switzerland

Geneva, September 22 (KUNA) – Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis affirmed on Tuesday that regional stability is of vital importance to global stability and to Switzerland. This statement came in a post on his X account following the first joint ministerial meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Switzerland, held in New York on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. The two sides discussed the geopolitical situation in the region, including developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab Strait. Cassis stressed that dialogue is essential for security and peace, emphasizing the importance of regional stability. He noted that participants agreed to give a “new impetus” to cooperation between the GCC states and Switzerland, pointing out that this meeting was the first since the signing of a memorandum of understanding earlier this year to establish a joint consultation mechanism. The meeting takes place amid the meetings and negotiations taking place in New York during the high-level week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, which brings together leaders and officials of member states to discuss regional and international issues.
