Spanish Prime Minister Discusses with Guterres Strengthening Multilateralism and International Cooperation

Madrid, September 22 (KUNA) -- Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez discussed with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, in New York, the multilateral priorities needed to address current geopolitical challenges. The Spanish government said in a statement on Tuesday that the meeting took place on the sidelines of the opening of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, noting that both sides emphasized the importance of international cooperation in light of the polarization fueled by the wars and conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, and the Middle East region. It added that both sides reaffirmed the need to continue climate action and to advance the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The government pointed out that Sánchez expressed his appreciation for Guterres’s efforts in leading the organization amid an international environment marked by growing divisions and skepticism toward multilateral institutions, while commending his efforts to preserve the UN’s pivotal role as the foremost platform for dialogue, cooperation, and the search for common solutions to global challenges.
