Cairo, Sept 22 (KUNA) -- Eight Arab and Islamic countries agreed today, Tuesday, to continue intensifying coordination and consultation in the coming period regarding developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, in a manner that contributes to achieving security and stability in the region. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that this agreement was reached during a meeting of the Group of Eight Arab and Islamic Countries at the Egyptian mission’s headquarters in New York. The group comprises Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, Turkey, Pakistan, and Indonesia, and took place on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized during the meeting the necessity of intensifying efforts to move forward with the full implementation of US President Donald Trump’s comprehensive peace plan for Gaza, including all its obligations, and to prevent any actions that could obstruct its progress, thereby contributing to ending the war, consolidating the ceasefire, and laying the foundations for sustainable peace and stability.

Abdelatty outlined the efforts undertaken by Egypt in cooperation with mediators during the recent period, stressing the need for all parties, including Israel, to fulfill their responsibilities and refrain from any violations that could undermine the ceasefire, while ensuring safe, full, and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. He also affirmed the importance of accelerating early recovery efforts and introducing the necessary supplies to meet the urgent needs of the Palestinian people and contribute to improving the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of any attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their land, and condemned Israel’s actions in the West Bank and its attempts to undermine the existing legal and historical status of Jerusalem and its holy sites. He warned against the dangers of settlement expansion and measures aimed at imposing new facts on the ground, which undermine the prospects of establishing a Palestinian state and threaten the two-state solution and the chances of achieving peace in the region.
