(Ministry of Interior): Foiled attempt to smuggle approximately 4 kilograms of heroin hidden in car spare parts

Kuwait City, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- The Ministry of Interior announced on Monday the thwarting of an attempt to smuggle approximately four kilograms of heroin into the country, which had been cleverly concealed inside car spare parts, and the arrest of two Asian nationals linked to the case.

In a press statement, the Ministry said the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, in coordination and cooperation with the General Customs Authority, intercepted a shipment in which the drugs were secretly hidden inside 16 iron crankshafts.

It added that surveillance and investigative operations led to the arrest of the suspects in the Mubarak Al-Kabir and Salwa areas after they received the shipment. A search of their residence uncovered 100 grams of methamphetamine (shabu) and a sensitive scale.

The statement clarified that the suspects confessed, upon confrontation with the seized items, that they had received instructions from an individual residing abroad to receive the shipments, extract the narcotics, and distribute them within the country in exchange for financial compensation.

It noted that the necessary legal procedures were taken against the suspects, who were referred along with the seized items to the competent authorities on charges of possessing narcotics with intent to traffic and consume. (End) A.J.R. / T.A.B.
