Arab Parliament Speaker Condemns Raids on Al-Aqsa Mosque and Desecration of Jerusalem's Holy Sites
Cairo, 21 Sep (KUNA) – The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed Al-Yamahi, condemned on Monday the incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli settlers and ministers of the Israeli occupation government, affirming that such practices constitute a blatant violation of the existing historical and legal status quo.
In a statement, Al-Yamahi warned against the use of religious holidays as a pretext to storm the Al-Aqsa Mosque and impose foreign rituals under the official protection of the Israeli occupation government. He stressed that this reveals deliberate attempts to alter the identity of the mosque and impose a new fait accompli, paving the way for undermining its current status and dividing it temporally and spatially.
He affirmed that the continuation of these practices would have serious repercussions on security and stability in the region and would constitute a provocation to the sentiments of hundreds of millions of Muslims worldwide.
Al-Yamahi also condemned the tour by the Israeli occupation government’s Prime Minister and his wife of the tunnels and excavations located beneath the area of the Al-Buraq Wall (Western Wall) and the Old City of occupied Jerusalem, as well as the accompanying statements of a religious and historical nature aimed at entrenching the occupation’s narrative and imposing it as a fait accompli.
He considered the tunnels and excavations to be incapable of altering historical and legal facts or erasing the Arab and Islamic identity of Jerusalem and its holy sites. He clarified that the Al-Aqsa Mosque, in its entirety, including its courtyards, gates, and prayer halls, is a purely Islamic mosque, and that the Al-Buraq Wall is an integral part of the Islamic holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.
He stated that any attempts to impose a new reality by force or to change the existing historical and legal status quo will not create a right for the occupation nor grant it any legitimacy over the holy sites.
Al-Yamahi called on the international community and the UN Security Council to assume their responsibilities in halting these violations and compelling the occupation to respect international law and legitimate international resolutions, and to cease unilateral and provocative measures in occupied Jerusalem.
He affirmed that silence in the face of these violations encourages their continuation, and that protecting the holy sites is an international responsibility that cannot be delayed. He stressed that the city of Jerusalem will remain at the forefront of the Arab nation’s priorities, and that the Al-Aqsa Mosque will remain a red line that must not be crossed or tampered with.
He emphasized that attempts to impose a fait accompli by force will not change the fact that Jerusalem is an occupied city, nor will they grant the occupation legitimacy over its holy sites or the right to alter its identity.
