Minister of Social Affairs discusses enhancing humanitarian cooperation with the UNHCR Representative for the Gulf States

Kuwait - 21 - 9 (KUNA) -- Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Umthail Al-Houla, met on Monday with Dr. Khalid Al-Khalifa, Advisor to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and partnership in humanitarian and relief fields.

The Ministry stated in a press release that the coordination meeting discussed the importance of the role played by the UNHCR in managing relations and coordinating humanitarian and relief partnerships with governments, relevant stakeholders, and private sector institutions in the Gulf countries, contributing to the support of refugees and affected populations worldwide.

According to the statement, Al-Houla affirmed the Ministry's readiness to strengthen constructive cooperation with the UNHCR in charitable and humanitarian work, in accordance with legal frameworks and approved official channels.

Both sides emphasized the importance of the recently issued legislation regulating charitable and humanitarian work, and its role in strengthening governance and transparency principles, establishing a clear institutional framework for regulating charitable activities, protecting donors' funds, ensuring they are directed to their designated purposes, and preventing the exploitation or misuse of charitable work.
