Doha, September 21 (KUNA) – The State of Kuwait, represented by the Public Authority for Combating Corruption (Nazaha), participated in the ninth meeting of the Open-Ended Committee of Governmental Experts and Representatives of Independent Bodies of States Parties to the Arab Convention on Combating Corruption, held today, Monday, in the Qatari capital, Doha.
The meeting is part of the events of the sixth session of the Conference of the States Parties to the Convention, taking place from September 21 to 23, 2026, and organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, in preparation for the sixth session of the Conference. The Committee reviewed draft resolutions to be presented to the Conference, with a view to their adoption, following preparatory sessions held virtually on September 8, 9, and 15.
The meeting’s agenda included discussions on several draft resolutions, including a mechanism for reviewing the implementation of the Arab Convention on Combating Corruption, the Doha Declaration on enhancing preventive anti-corruption measures, and strengthening international cooperation by accelerating responses to requests for mutual legal assistance.
Among the draft resolutions was one submitted by the Public Authority for Combating Corruption (Nazaha) on behalf of the State of Kuwait, concerning the enhancement of beneficial ownership transparency and the identification of beneficial owners (“ultimate beneficial owners”) in legal persons and arrangements. This resolution aims to support the capacity of States Parties to uncover structures used to conceal proceeds of corruption, facilitate the tracing of funds, and recover assets, in accordance with the provisions of the Arab Convention on Combating Corruption and relevant international standards.
The Nazaha delegation affirmed that Kuwait’s participation in the Committee’s work reflects its commitment to implementing the provisions of the Arab Convention on Combating Corruption, its dedication to enhancing joint Arab efforts in the fields of corruption prevention and combat, and its interest in exchanging expertise and best practices among relevant Arab authorities.
The sixth session’s activities will continue tomorrow, Tuesday, with the convening of the Arab Forum to Enhance Anti-Corruption Efforts in the Public Sector. The official session of the Conference of the States Parties will be held next Wednesday. (End) S S S / N S A
