Cairo, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- Egypt today, Monday, strongly condemned the incursion by an Israeli occupation official and a group of settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under the protection of Israeli occupation police forces. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that the incursion constitutes a violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites and an affront to the feelings of Muslims worldwide, heralding further tension and escalation. Egypt emphasized the necessity of adhering to the historical and legal status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and respecting the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. It warned against any attempts to alter the city’s Arab and Islamic identity or to impose a new reality on its holy sites, reiterating the need to halt unilateral measures that undermine prospects for de-escalation and stability in the region.
