Kuwait City, 20 September (KUNA) -- The KUNA Media Capacity Development Center launched its training program, “Crafting News Stories and Their Sources,” today, Sunday, with the participation of several staff members from the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.

The program, presented by KUNA senior editor Mustafa Mahmoud and running until 24 September, aims to enhance trainees’ skills in crafting news stories in accordance with established professional standards, enable them to select news sources and assess their credibility, and strengthen their ability to verify information before publication.

Relying on both theoretical and practical approaches, the program covers several key topics, including developing writing skills using precise and balanced journalistic language, and equipping participants with the ability to avoid common professional errors in journalism. It targets journalists working in media institutions, news agencies, newspapers, magazines, websites, and media and public relations departments.

The curriculum addresses the concept of news, its types, and its importance in media work, news values, criteria for selecting events, news sources and their professional handling, as well as constructing news stories, writing headlines and news leads. It also covers common professional errors in news editing and the effective use of verbs and linguistic styles in news reporting, along with procedures for verifying information prior to publication.

The organization of this program is part of the KUNA Media Capacity Development Center’s efforts to qualify media personnel and enhance their professional competence through specialized training programs that keep pace with developments in the media industry and meet the needs of media institutions and related entities.

Established in December 1995, the KUNA Media Capacity Development Center is among the most prominent media training centers. It has delivered hundreds of training programs in various media fields, with the aim of developing the personal capacities and capabilities of media professionals and elevating the standards of professional media work.
