Ramallah, September 20 (KUNA) -- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accompanied by thousands of settlers, breached the Western Wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound early Sunday morning. The Jerusalem Municipality said in a statement that the incursion was part of what is referred to as the “Yom Kippur” ceremonies, amid a heavy military presence and large crowds of settlers. It noted that settlers performed rituals and Talmudic prayers outside the Mercy Gate on the exterior side of the Al-Aqsa Mosque wall, in response to calls to gather at the site. The municipality added that hundreds of settlers assembled in the morning near the Moroccan Gate in preparation for entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. This comes as the occupation imposed stringent military measures in the Old City of Jerusalem and the West Bank, closing military checkpoints and hindering the movement and travel of Palestinian citizens.
